UNRULY KIDS IN A RESTAURANT

Think about the times you’ve been in a restaurant and some kids are running around, screeching, or fondling the food on the buffet. Your first reaction is to be really ticked at the kids; then you think, “Wait a minute, who’s really responsible here? Who are the parents that are allowing this?” The kids aren’t really to blame. Then your anger is rightfully aimed at the parents; and, if you can spot them, you give them a stern look of disapproval.

The situation with our Congress and the Executive Branch is similar, but not totally analogous—in this case neither branch is blameless. Both need to be held to account. All of us who are paying attention are irate at the Bush Administration for their assault on our country; one reason they are doing it is ‘because they can’ [like the kids in the restaurant]. While we are, and should be, fed up with the Bush Administration and we should continue to push for their impeachment; we have to picture our Congress in the same role as the uncaring parents letting their kids run loose—and, in fact, we are. This is reflected in all the polls that show that the approval rating of Congress is even lower than the dismal approval rating of Bush & Cheney.

Tell your Congressional Representative to start the discipline that the ‘unruly kids’ in the White House need!
