HOW BAD IS THE TERRORIST THREAT?
……Very Bad!
Yes, unfortunately, there are those who want to harm us and there have been for decades. They are spread out all over the world including right here in the USA. This threat will always be there; we can’t eliminate it. We can increase the threat; or we can reduce the threat—that much is in our hands. It’s time to vigorously protest the White House rants that if you’re not in support of the President’s ‘tactics’ on terrorism, then you’re unaware of or in denial of the threat.
Actually, Mr. Bush, we are very well aware of the threat; BUT you, Mr. Bush, should be telling Americans that….
….WE ARE MORE LIKELY TO DIE FROM…..
1.) …..a drunk driver
2.) …..a sober driver
3.) …..influenza
4.) …..a mosquito bite
5.) …..a tick bite
than we are from terrorists. Start calming the people you are supposed to serve and stop alarming them, Mr. Bush.
HOW CAN WE MAKE THE TERRORIST THREAT WORSE?
Easy! Just keep doing what we’ve been doing since 9/11 under the bungling ‘leadership’ of George Bush & Dick Cheney. Under their catastrophic & manipulative ‘guidance’, we have…
1.) …..increased the number of people worldwide who hate us enough to sacrifice themselves to harm us—mainly because of the foreign policies of our current White House—again, this includes people from within the USA.
2.) …..made recruiting of terrorists/suicide bombers easier than it has ever been—Osama thanks you, Mr. Bush!
3.) …..made the recruiting of people into our armed services as difficult as it’s ever been. Many folks would eagerly enlist to protect our country but most people recognize that troops currently aren’t being used for that.
4.) …..severely reduced our capacity on the home front to respond to any disaster—terrorist or natural. Many of us in the Triangle area remember the aftermath of Hurricane Fran in ’96. Immediately there were National Guardsmen & Reservists responding to the destruction. Obviously the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was much, much worse and the restoration couldn’t have been nearly as quick as with Fran; but, very noticeably missing were the majority of Guardsmen & Reservists. What a difference they could have made!!! Where were they [and most of their pumps, vehicles, & generators]? In Iraq, of course. There was very little mainstream press on this absence after Katrina. Not until after the Cat-5 tornado in Kansas, after the war in Iraq had become increasingly unpopular, and the Governor actually had the courage to mention the absence of responders, did the mainstream media touch on the subject—and even then rather casually. We need ‘em at home Mr. Bush.
HOW CAN WE REDUCE THE THREAT OF TERRORISM?
1.) Firstly, and most importantly, we can stop slaughtering and/or facilitating the slaughter of innocent people.
2.) We can put our resources into a campaign to stop inspiring terrorists instead of into an un-win-able ‘War on Terror’. You simply cannot defeat an ideology militarily! Military actions only serve to invigorate and embolden the proponents of an ideology. If we stop breaking international law, stop violating treaties, and start restoring respect & credibility of our government, religious leadership would more vigorously renounce the actions of religious extremists; and there would be a more cohesive multinational effort to address terrorism.
3.) We can impeach the leaders who whip up fear with their rhetoric for political posturing and replace them with leaders who will teach people to become more vigilant and to recognize & report potential terrorist activity.
4.) We can bring our military home to defend our country instead of perpetuating a calamitous war in Iraq. It’s time to stop squandering lives and money in a desperate attempt to salvage a disastrous presidential legacy.
